EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a specialized therapy used to help people heal from trauma, painful memories, and experiences that feel “stuck.” It was developed in the late 1980s and is now one of the most researched and effective methods for treating trauma.
Instead of relying only on talk therapy, EMDR helps the brain reprocess overwhelming memories so they no longer feel as intense, intrusive, or triggering. Many people describe EMDR as finally being able to “move past” something their mind and body have been holding onto.
When something traumatic or deeply upsetting happens, the brain can become overwhelmed and unable to fully process the event. This can cause memories to get “frozen” with all their original emotions, body sensations, and beliefs. EMDR helps restart the brain’s natural healing process using something called bilateral stimulation, usually eye movements, tapping, or sounds that move back and forth. This is similar to how the brain processes information during REM sleep. During EMDR, you're gently guided to focus on a distressing memory while also engaging in this bilateral stimulation. Over time, the memory becomes less emotionally charged, and people often gain new, healthier ways of understanding the event.
Although EMDR is well known for treating PTSD, it can also support healing for:
Anxiety or panic
Depression
Grief and loss
Childhood trauma
Phobias
Chronic stress
Performance blocks
Low self-esteem
Relationship trauma
Sleep issues
Painful or intrusive memories
Life transitions
Medical or accident-related trauma
EMDR does not require you to retell every detail of your trauma. The focus is on helping your brain reprocess what feels stuck so you can move forward.
It depends. We will monitor your progress with each session to determine how EMDR is working for you and if additional sessions are necessary.
Functional Medicine is a personalized, root-cause approach to health that looks beyond symptoms to understand how the body’s systems work together. Through comprehensive assessment, lifestyle evaluation, and evidence-informed care, I help individuals address chronic concerns, restore balance, and build long-term resilience—integrating physical, mental, and emotional health for whole-person healing.
Functional Medicine is a patient-centered approach to care that focuses on identifying and addressing the underlying causes of illness. Rather than treating isolated symptoms, it examines how genetics, lifestyle, environment, stress, and physiology interact to influence overall health.
While conventional medicine often focuses on diagnosis and symptom management, Functional Medicine emphasizes root-cause discovery, prevention, and long-term wellness. Care is highly individualized and designed to support the body as an interconnected system.
Functional Medicine can support a wide range of chronic and complex concerns, including:
Chronic stress and burnout
Digestive and gut health issues
Hormonal imbalances
Autoimmune and inflammatory conditions
Fatigue and brain fog
Mood concerns such as anxiety and depression (in coordination with mental health care)
Sleep disturbances
Immune system support
Appointments typically include an in-depth review of medical history, lifestyle factors, stress patterns, and symptoms. Together, we develop a personalized care plan that may include nutrition guidance, lifestyle changes, nervous system support, and targeted supplementation when appropriate.
No. Functional Medicine is designed to complement—not replace—primary medical care or specialty treatment. Collaboration with your existing healthcare providers is encouraged when appropriate.
Absolutely. Functional Medicine pairs well with mental health and trauma-informed care, as stress physiology, nervous system regulation, and emotional health play a significant role in physical wellness.
Every individual is different. Some clients notice improvements within weeks, while others experience gradual progress over time. Functional Medicine focuses on sustainable, long-term healing rather than quick fixes.
Coverage varies. Functional Medicine services are often self-pay, though some laboratory testing may be eligible for insurance reimbursement depending on your plan.
Functional Medicine is ideal for individuals seeking a deeper understanding of their health, those with chronic or unresolved symptoms, and anyone interested in prevention, resilience, and whole-person wellness.
When indicated, existing laboratory results can be reviewed, and functional or conventional labs may be recommended to help identify imbalances and guide care planning.
